'Creating Art with the Community since 1960'
Jim Evans (Jimcent)
Born on 22 December 1953 in the United Kingdom, and arrived in Australia 1958.
My wife inspired me to become an artist after I was put onto a disability pension at the age of 36, after reading art was good therapy for those suffering with depression and to help alleviate boredom. I have been lucky because I could always draw and painting is a further extension of this.
I have a Junior Certificate (year 10) at High School and won a scholarship in commercial art.
In 1995 I won the Dalwalinu Art Festival Award for Best Oil Painting and Best in Show.
I received Judges commendations at Cossack Art Show, Dawalinu Art Festival and Morawa Art Show.
Exhibited at the Geraldton Regional Gallery and had many shared exhibitions.
I have paintings hanging in private collections in the UK, USA, Switzerland, Canada and across Australia.
I prefer Oil paints over other mediums although I also paint in Acrylics, Pastels (chalks) and Watercolour. I also use Spray Cans and Air Brush.
I enjoy painting most subjects but my favourite subjects would have to be Birds and Animals followed by Fantasy.
I teach art from home, hold workshops and have run an art class for the past 11 years at our local community centre (QEII Centre Geraldton). I helped start the Dongara-Denison Art Group and am an active member and current President of the Geraldton Art Society.
I paint commissions and my artwork is for sale. Galleries can be viewed on Facebook www.facebook.com/jimcentsart or email me at: jimcent2212@gmail.com
